NASA's TRMM satellite captured rainfall data on Tropical Depression Wukong as it struggles to stay together in the South China Sea. Wukong has been battered with wind shear for days and NASA satellite data still shows an area of moderate rainfall within the dying storm.

NASA's Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission or TRMM satellite passed over Tropical Depression Wukong on Dec. 28 at 0328 UTC (10:28 p.m. EST, Dec. 27) and saw one area of moderate rainfall near the center of circulation. That area was generating a rainfall rate of about 1 inch/25 mm per hour. Most of the other precipitation in the storm is lighter and scattered.

On Dec. 28 at 0900 UTC (4 a.m. EST) Tropical Depression Wukong had maximum sustained winds near 25 knots (28.7 mph/46.3 kph). Satellite data helped pinpoint Wukong's center near 8.7 north latitude and 111.0 east longitude, about 280 miles (322 miles/518.6 km) east of Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. Wukong continues to move to the west-southwest staying south of Vietnam.

Wukong is moving around the southern edge of a ridge (elongated) area of high pressure and being battered with moderate southeasterly vertical wind shear. According to the forecasters at the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC), the wind shear has exposed the low level circulation center.

JTWC forecasters expect the depression to continue moving west-southwest over the next day or two before finally dissipating.

US shuts embassy in Central African Republic

WASHINGTON (AP) ? The State Department has closed its embassy in the Central African Republic and ordered the ambassador and his diplomatic team to leave the country as rebels there continue to advance and violence escalates, U.S. officials said Thursday.

A Pentagon spokesman, Lt. Col. Todd Breasseale, said that at the State Department's request, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta had directed U.S. Africa Command to evacuate U.S. citizens and designated foreign nationals from the U.S. Embassy in Bangui "to safe havens in the region."

State Department spokesman Patrick Ventrell said the U.S. Embassy had temporarily suspended operations, but not diplomatic relations with the country.

"This decision is solely due to concerns about the security of our personnel and has no relation to our continuing and long-standing diplomatic relations" with the Central African Republic, Ventrell said in a statement.

Shortly after announcing the evacuation Thursday, the State Department warned U.S. citizens against travel to the Central African Republic, saying it could not "provide protection or routine consular services to U.S. citizens" and urging Americans who have decided to stay to "review their personal security situation and seriously consider departing" on commercial flights. Four days earlier, the State Department had issued a warning recommending against travel to the country and authorizing its non-emergency personnel in Bangui to leave.

U.S. officials said about 40 people were evacuated on an U.S. Air Force plane bound for Kenya. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to discuss the details of the operation.

The departure of Ambassador Laurence Wohlers and his staff comes as the president of the Central African Republic on Thursday urgently called on France and other foreign powers to help his government fend off rebels who are quickly seizing territory and approaching this capital city, but French officials declined to offer any military assistance.

Rebels have seized at least 10 towns across the sparsely populated north, and residents in the capital of 600,000 people fear insurgents could attack at any time.

The developments suggest the Central African Republic could be on the brink of another violent change in government, something not new to the impoverished country. The current president, Francois Bozize, himself came to power nearly a decade ago in the wake of a rebellion.

Speaking to crowds in Bangui, Bozize pleaded with foreign powers to do what they could. He pointed in particular to France, Central African Republic's former colonial ruler.

About 200 French soldiers are already in the country, providing technical support and helping to train the local army, according to the French defense ministry.

French President Francois Hollande said Thursday that France wants to protect its interests in Central African Republic and not Bozize's government. Paris is encouraging peace talks between the government and the rebels.

President Barack Obama late last year sent about 100 U.S. special operations forces to the region ? including Central African Republic ? to assist in the hunt for Joseph Kony, the fugitive rebel leader of the notorious Lord's Resistance Army. Forces have been hunting the elusive warlord in Central African Republic, South Sudan and Congo.

Still single: Loving the holidays before it gets crazy | Friends In ...

I just turned 37 this month and the pressure is on! If I want to get married and have kids soon there is no time like the present to start looking for a wife and future mother of my beautiful children. In the meantime, I have enjoyed being single and the benefits this age allows. My parents, in their 60?s, are thrilled to watch their three sons grow in their careers and as men. My youngest brother is the only one to marry thus far and he and his wife are first in line for grandchildren. As we move closer to the addition of more family members, and the additional fanfare involved, we enjoyed a quiet holiday season this year.

Before you start a family, take a moment to enjoy the past and present, before you get too busy!

My parents are both 67 and my brother Matt and I accompanied them to Christmas Day mass on Sunday. That would have been a much larger production if I had a wife and kids in tow. It was nice to spend some time as adults, enjoying the holiday, without the demands of a young family. When you have a young family you have less time to engage in intelligent conversation, focus on your parents, and reminisce about good years past.

When I do get married and start a family we will collectively raise everyone?s blood pressure as we engage family and friends with our wonderful and overwhelming family. When we engage in launching a family, we put our personalities on the back burner and focus on the kids. Before this happens, and while we are young adults, we all have the opportunity to talk to mom and dad about where we are now and from where we have grown.

Growing up in a professional family means you have certain responsibilities to family and career. Meeting expectations is important and having the time to chat with moms and dads about progress and next steps is easy when you don?t have your own family in the room. Taking advantage of these opportunities while you?re still single is a privilege. When I engage in dialogue about the future I recognize my parents? desire to gauge how my brothers and I are doing and how they react to us. It is so important to continue a dialogue about family member progress when so many people are invested in success.

I know my parents consider me a great ?success,? but I know my wedding and first born child are the real benchmarks on which my mother and father want to hang their hat. The older I am and the further I embrace my career goals, the closer I am to making my own successful family. I hope when I am my parents? age I will appreciate the contributions of my adult children who make their way in the world.

Enjoy your friends and family while you are young and before your time is earmarked for your personal family business. Before long you will be without time to really sit down and talk to your mom and dad about family history and progress.

LeAnn Rimes sings about cheating with husband

Richard Brian / Reuters file

Singer LeAnn Rimes and her husband Eddie Cibrian in 2012.

By Us Weekly

LeAnn Rimes is ready to face the music -- her music -- after her 2009 affair with now-husband Eddie Cibrian.?In a new single, "Borrowed," the star opens up about the couple's forbidden love, which developed on the set of "Northern Lights" while both were still involved with other people. (Rimes wed Dean Sheremet in 2002; Cibrian had been married to Brandi Glanville since 2001.)?

PHOTOS: LeAnn and Eddie's road to romance

"I wanna hold out, but I hold on, even though I know it's wrong," she sings. "Cause I don't want to give you back, you're the best I ever had -- but you're borrowed."

"I carried that song and that title around with me for about eight months," Rimes told "Extra" after her "X Factor" performance with Carly Rose Sonenclar on Dec. 20. "I was afraid to write it because I knew I had to be incredibly personal...When I did, it was through a lot of tears."

PHOTOS: LeAnn's bikini body

Another reason she waited so long? Cibrian. Though she told Extra her husband of a year-and-a-half is "always so supportive," she worried a little about rehashing their past.

"I actually was scared to put him in the song, because it does talk about how we both hurt each other," she explained. "There was a moment where we did have some hurt between the two of us that we had to accept and get over and move forward."

Because of that, however, their marriage is much stronger. As she told?"Extra," it's "made for an amazing relationship."

'My Three Wives': Joe Darger Is Married To Twin Sisters And Their Cousin (VIDEO)

  • Peggy Olson, "Mad Men"

She didn't have an easy start as a secretary at Sterling Cooper, but Peggy Olson (Elisabeth Moss) has certainly worked her way up on the '60s era drama. Peggy was consdiered one of the biggest creative geniuses behind the company (before she left last season), although she certainly lost a few nights of sleep in the process.

  • Walter White, "Breaking Bad"

Once just a high school chemistry teacher, Walt (Bryan Cranston) has spent the past four years battling cancer, cooking meth and killing people. Oh, and he's now considered the drug king of New Mexico. It's kind of a tough job.

  • Deborah Morgan, "Dexter"

Deb (Jennifer Carpenter) is totally devoted to her job as a Lieutenant for the the Miami Metro Homicide Unit. In a mostly male-dominated field, she had to prove herself by outworking everyone else. She takes her job home with her, has no personal life to speak of, and has been rewarded for her dedication and police intuition with promotions to Detective and eventually Lieutenant for simultaneously busting asses and kicking them.

  • Saul Berenson, "Homeland"

There were heartbreaking moments and tense developments galore in this crackling Showtime thriller, but anchoring it all was a wonderfully soulful performance by Mandy Patinkin as the hard-working Saul. He talked Carrie down from her more manic places, and when that failed, he comforted her at her lowest moments -- all in addition to holding down a demanding job as a crucial CIA employee. One of the most indelible images of Season 1 was a scene of Saul using a ruler to spread peanut butter on some crackers, a late-night snack that reinforced the idea that those who often work hard to keep America safe not only don't get credit -- they don't even get dinner.

  • Leslie Knope, "Parks & Recreation"

You will not find a harder worker in the Parks and Recreation department of Pawnee. Heck, you probably won't find a more dedicated worker anywhere on TV. Leslie (Amy Poehler) spearheaded the Harvest Festival, saving Pawnee. She also tirelessly campaigned for a seat on the Pawnee City Council while continuing her work with the Parks Department. When she was suspended, she started her own citizen action league. You can take the Knope out of the office, but you can't take the work out of the Knope.

  • Tyrion Lannister, "Game of Thrones"

Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) wasn't exactly a hard-working guy when "Thrones" began, but over the course of two seasons, more and more responsibilities piled up on him, to the point where he hardly had time for bordellos and wine (the horror!). One of the most fascinating things about the HBO show is the way it's shown Tyrion -- who'd been underestimated and mostly dismissed by everyone (including himself) -- realize that he not only was good at wielding power, he actually liked it. But it certainly cuts into a guy's recreational time, as courtiers Varys and Littlefinger could have told him.

  • Alicia Florrick, "The Good Wife"

Is Alicia (Julianna Margulies) ever home? And when she's home, is her phone ever not within arm's reach? She always goes above and beyond for Lockhart/Gardner. This is her first job in years and Alicia has moved fast, climbing the corporate ladder with ease. Could it be Lockhart, Gardner & Florrick soon?

  • John Cooper, "Southland"

Cooper (Michael Cudlitz) is recovering from addiction problems, but he never lets his bad back stand in the way of doing his job as an LAPD officer. His troubled past (a criminal father, a failed marriage and his closeted sexuality) explains why he's so passionate about the job, and why he does it all with a sense of humor. "You're a cop because you don't know how not to be one. If you feel that way, you're a cop -- if you don't, you're not."

  • Kate Beckett, "Castle"

Detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) has a lot on her plate -- the unsolved murder of her mother that drew her to the job and Castle, the man who wants to help her solve the case ... but not at the expense of her own safety. Her personal issues sometimes drive her to make emotional decisions in the field, but it just proves how much she really cares.

  • Sam and Dean Winchester, "Supernatural"

Plenty of people take their work home with them, but few let their jobs consume them as thoroughly as hunky, demon-hunting brothers Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) have over seven seasons of "Supernatural." The family business of "saving people" and "hunting things" not only has them living in motels and out of Dean's trusty Impala, it's also seen them sent to Heaven, Hell and many dimensions in-between in the name of saving the world. If anyone deserves a vacation, it's these two hard-working heroes. Sadly for them, kicking ass and looking good is a full-time job.

  • Miranda Bailey, "Grey's Anatomy"

Dr. Bailey (Chandra Wilson) could not be more dedicated to her job at Seattle Grace. When viewers first met her, she was the play-by-the rules resident of general surgery and referred to as "The Nazi" by her five surgical interns -- Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh), Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl), George O'Malley (T.R. Knight) and Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) -- because she ruled with an iron first. But Bailey has since proven to have a soft heart, too. Her devotion to her job arguably cost her her marriage, but Bailey could never turn her back on the co-workers and patients at Seattle Grace, no matter how much stress and pressure she's under.

  • Kenneth Parcell, "30 Rock"

The constantly-cheerful NBC page (and former Southern farm boy) is one of the most dutiful employees we've ever seen on TV. Sure, Kenneth (Jack McBrayer) is incredibly awkward and sometimes annoyingly optimistic, but he also could not be more devoted to "TGS," NBC and television at large. After all, how many times have we seen him out of his page uniform?

  • Max Black, "Two Broke Girls"

One of the titular heroines of CBS' raunchy comedy, Max Black (Kat Dennings) seems to have tried her hand at just about every low-paying job in New York. She's also an excellent multitasker, balancing her burgeoning cupcake business with waitressing, nannying, cleaning, working as a department store Christmas elf, dog-sitting and wrangling her flaky roommate Caroline, to name a few. Someone give this poor broke girl a break!

  • Antoine Batiste, "Treme"

It's not easy being a working musician in New Orleans. Whether he's trying to wrangle together his own band or lugging his trombone all around town going from gig to gig, Antoine Batiste (Wendell Pierce) is always hustling. At his wife's urging, he picked up a side job as an assistant band leader at a local high school, which will give his family a steady stream of secondary income.

The Evolution of Video Game Consoles (Infographic)

video game consoleThis isn?t exactly digital marketing, but it is really, really cool so I wanted to share.

Ript Apparel has created this very basic, but very fun trip down memory lane. In their infographic, Ript highlights the evolution of video game consoles from 1967-today. From The Brown Box to Wii U and everything in between.

There are a few here that I have never heard of and a few that I completely forgot about. Anyone remember the TurboGrafx-16???

I figured that everyone needed a brief escape with everything going on in the offline world. I hope you enjoy this one as much as I did!

Not Another Year Of New Years Resolutions!!!Freefall Self ...

Not another year of New Years Resolutions ? I find it ironic that every year we have a structure in our society which we tolerate where nine times out of ten we set ourselves up for so called ?failure? and another year goes by and we do it all again ? enough already!

I have a process in my education called the ?Ludicracy Cycle?, and personally speaking New Years Resolutions are just ludicrous ? I do own however how this may land for some of you who diligently make a record of everything you wish to achieve and achieve it ? not aiming this at you ? top marks if this is the case BUT why are we so hell bent on gauging our success on goals we make at the start of the year which for the majority of the population we never achieve.

I have a vocation where I live, eat and breathe goal setting, and not just at the start of the year ? don?t get me wrong, the psychology of a New Year is very powerful but not when it is a structure to keep us disempowered!

Here?s a question for you? ?How many people reading this blog today can say that they achieve what they set out to every year as a result of declaring it as a New Years resolution? ?If the percentage is high then all power to you, if the percentage is medium to low I have my take on why this is?

Top 10 Reasons People Do Not Achieve Goals Set As New Years Resolutions

    1. ?SABOTAGE ? we as human beings naturally sabotage anything good in our lives yet hardly ever admit this to ourselves

    2. ?EVIDENCE ? we need to find evidence that we cannot achieve x, y, z to prove our default (disempowered listening we have of ourselves) ? does this serve us, not from our empowered self BUT it definitely does from the disempowered self ? history and track record proves where our commitment truly lies

    3. ?DISASSOCIATION ? we are disassociated from the costs of keeping a cycle in place that no longer serves us ?- being disassociated from the power of our spoken word keeps that elusive goal outside out of our grasp

    4. ? JUSTIFICATION ? we love using excuses as to why we cannot achieve xyz ? this lets us off the hook ? if you haven?t noticed it works! ?Couldn?t afford to do it, didn?t have the time, something else came up etc. etc.

    5. ?JUDGMENT ? This is not only with New Years Resolutions but within the human psyche we tend to fly below the radar for showing up above the radar we get judged, assessed and criticized, and yes sometimes from our well meaning friends and family members, those closest to us! ?We can?t be too successful, we can?t stand out, we can?t be too selfish, and can?t be too showy?you get the gist

    6. ?WANT VERSUS COMMITMENT PARADIGM ? we live in a false world stating that we are COMMITTED when all the time we are living on the court called ?WANT?. ?If you have not noticed the results are never produced on that court. ?When someone who legitimately thinks that they are committed is challenged, that they are not, they become very defensive because normally they are working their butts off with little or no results ?happening ? why ? because they have not learnt the lesson of what it takes to be committed! ?Commitment = Results ? simple formula ? if the results are not produced in the area of your life that you state you are committed, you are not committed ? sobering thought!

    7. ?COURAGE ? there is an unwillingness to confront what?s in the way, and an unwillingness ?to be with the resistance for it feels uncomfortable. ?Confrontation, resistance, and feeling uncomfortable are just feelings, they have no power unless you live at consequence to them. ?To be courageous is to embrace these feelings and take the required action anyway!

    8. ?NO ROBUST PLAN ? I am a project management queen, I understand the power of planning ? 90% of projects fail because people do not spend time in the planning phase ? and for those who do put the effort in they are not disciplined in what it means to work to plan ? how crazy it that. ?Put all that effort in and then not be disciplined to follow through, why bother! ?Or there?s those that love stating 50% complete, 70% complete and keep deferring out ? when you work to plan your word is gospel to accomplish what you say you will within a said timeframe ? NO MATTER WHAT!

    9. ?FRUSTRATION ? the epidemic craziness in our society is living in the realm of DOING ? this is not fulfilling, nor satisfying ? what it is, is extremely FRUSTRATING! ?But we tolerate this. ?No one in their right mind would live in the mode of driving, striving forcing if they were associated to the costs of this type of behaviour ? but we keep doing it!!! ?To alleviate frustration we need to learn the art of co-creating, thereby manifesting the results to come to us as a function of who we are BEING!

    10. ?NO ACCOUNTABILITY OR SUPPORT ? name a successful person and I can guarantee they had support, they had guidance, they had people who held them to account. ?They had conviction from their soul that they would not allow anything to deter them from their goal/s.

So, do yourself a favour and DO NOT write down any New Years resolutions this year UNLESS you are willing to address these 10 points. ?I would prefer you to declare the following ? ?This year I am unwilling to write down any New Years Resolutions because I am unwilling to do what it takes to achieve them? ? that would be a more honest approach and it would save yourself a lot of heartache.

On the other hand if you are willing to do what it takes ? by all means ? GO FOR IT! ?And I commend you for your achievements in advance for I get what it takes to lead a committed life!

If you are wanting support and wish to achieve your New Years Resolutions this year NO MATTER WHAT, then consider calling one of the Freefall Team on 09 488 6764 or book in for a 1 hour free no obligation consultation session with one of our Certified Freefall Coaches

Hm, interesting...yeah, anytime you've began working out but despite the endorphins and even depression medication, feel MORE depressed, something's not right and I'd definitely suggest seeing a psychiatrist or doctor. I know that, when I started working out, I gained about five to ten pounds of muscle over month and a half to two months (noob gains! Now I only put one a pound or two per month :/) and because of that, my thyroid medication actually had to be adjusted up again...as far as medications that affect brain chemistry, I have no idea but could be. If you've significantly altered your diet to accommodate working out, that could affect the food content in your stomach when you take the medication which could dilute its efficacy. I probably could have summarized this whole post as, I have no idea and you should see a doctor to have things adjusted upwards if need be because working out is fantastic. Best of luck and I hope you pull through it quick!

(Reuters) - Google may not face any major repercussions from the Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) two-year-old anti-trust investigation into its web search business, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

The FTC might drop the investigation sometime this week based on voluntary changes Google will make to its search practices, rather than making the company sign a formal settlement called a consent decree, the Journal said.

The web search investigation examined whether Google tweaks its search results to disadvantage rivals in travel, shopping and other specialized searches.

Google will probably still be required to sign a consent decree for a separate federal investigation into the licensing of mobile-technology patents it acquired when it took over phone maker Motorola Mobility, the Journal said.

An end to the federal probe into Google's search business would allow the company to avoid getting mired in anti-trust investigations like rival Microsoft Corp endured in the early 2000s.

The European Commission, which is also probing Google, is expected to announce a decision next month.

The FTC declined to comment to the Wall Street Journal and could not be reached for comment by Reuters outside of regular business hours. Google could not be reached for comment by Reuters outside of regular business hours.

Office no longer an iOS must-have, unless you're Microsoft

Office no longer an iOS must-have, unless you're Microsoft

In the early days of the iPhone and later the iPad, pundits and consumers alike questioned how useful the devices could be without Microsoft's Office productivity suite. For many, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook are synonymous with business and getting things done. The iPhone launched over five years ago, and the iPad is coming up on three years, but in all that time they've yet to have an official Microsoft Office app suite, and with more than 100 million units sold each, sales have clearly suffered tremendously.

That's not to say that a solid word processor, spreadsheet cruncher, and presentation building app aren't essential for the platform - they are, and that's exactly why Apple built Pages, Numbers, and Keynote for iOS. Apple also sells the three iWork apps for $29.97 combined. That's ninety dollars less than the lowest available tier of Microsoft Office for PC or Mac, and that tier is intended for "home and student" use. It's another eighty bucks if you want a version meant for use in your business. The iOS iWork trifecta, however, continues to be less than thirty dollars, no matter what you intend to use it for.

To be fair, there's a fairly large and vocal contingent that insists they need Office. Numbers still isn't as robust as Excel (as any accountant will tell you), for one. But there's also a large institutional memory barrier to be overcome. Business believe that in order to conduct business, they need Office. That barrier is slowly coming down, one business at a time, with more and more picking up iPads in lieu of PCs.

With the iPad approaching its third birthday after completely turning the idea of what a tablet could be on its head while simultaneously and singlehandedly obliterating the netbook market, Microsoft finds themselves in an interesting predicament. Millions upon millions of iPad users have gotten by without Office, and they've flourished without Office. More and more, people are beginning to realize that they don't need Office to crunch numbers or draft documents or create presentations. With their email and contacts and calendar already in the cloud, they don't need Outlook.

Microsoft let a golden opportunity pass with iOS. For years and years they've managed to convince the overwhelming majority of Windows users that they need to have Office, and those customers have overwhelmingly ponied up for a license. Microsoft has profited mightily from this impression, with even Mac switchers being willing to plop down the extra cash to purchase a copy of Office for their new OS X machines.

But on iOS they have yet to have that opportunity. Hundreds of millions of iOS devices are out there, with not a single installation of Office in the public. Now, with Microsoft finally ready to roll out Office onto iOS, they've run into loggerheads with Apple over how much of a cut Apple should be able to take for sales made through the app. Specifically, Apple is keen to take a 30% cut of the sale price of any app sold through the App Store and 30% of any purchase made in that app using Apple's App Store backend - subscriptions included. The rules are the rules.

Microsoft's much-rumored Office for iOS is likely to take the form of an Office 365 subscription, which if purchased through Apple would result in a 30% commission for Apple into perpetuity, even if the subscriber switches to another platform (unless they opt to shut down their account and start from scratch - unlikely to say the least). Unsurprisingly, Apple's not budging on this. Not only have they made a lot of money off this model and stand to make even more off of Microsoft's work, but they don't need it.

In the early days of iOS, those questions of how well the platform could succeed without Office support were loud and ongoing. Had Microsoft launched Office on the iPhone and iPad early on, they could have furthered the impression that Office was a must-have for anybody serious about anything, even on iOS. But they let years pass, and now Microsoft's flagship applications aren't so must-have anymore and Apple isn't overly eager to accommodate them. It's easy to imagine that four years ago when preparing to launch the iPhone App Store Apple may have been more willing to negotiate with Microsoft to get flagship apps like Word and Excel on the smartphone. But today? Apple's doing just fine without them.

    Office for iPad mockup

Apple doesn't need Office, and if they can't get past the issue of Apple's cut of revenue, then Apple will happily move on without Office. Apple is a "my way or the highway" company, and that shouldn't surprise anybody. Would Apple get additional App Store income and sell even more iPhones and iPads with Office available? Sure. But that's not going to happen if Microsoft isn't willing to accept Apple's terms.

One could argue, on the other hand, that Microsoft needs iOS. While the "Maybe I don't need Office?" effect is one that is obviously of great concern to Microsoft's cash cow software, the potential of that realization for potential customers leads to further realizations: "Maybe I don't need a PC at all."

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer is betting the entire company on Windows 8, Windows RT, and Windows Phone. They've finally recognized that mobility is the future and they've built two-and-a-half operating systems that embrace that future. Windows RT and Windows Phone both come out of the box with Microsoft Office, an implicit admission that Office is a selling point for customers.

Office is synonymous with Windows in the minds of many, and once they realize that they don't necessarily need Office, then they don't need Windows either. By letting the world's most popular smartphone and tablet go for all these years without Office and giving Apple long enough to cement the stronger negotiating position, Microsoft's sacrificed the opportunity to breed another generation of users who absolutely, unequivocally, must have Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook. And that could very well be Microsoft's undoing.

    Sleep Apnea,The Dangers: A Rundown - Revista Women's Health

Many people choose to disregard sleep apnea, thinking it?s just about snoring. Unfortunately, snoring is just a symptom; it only mirrors the irregularities happening inside the body during an episode of sleep apnea. Sleep apnea, which is characterized by breath pauses usually lasting for a few seconds to minutes, is foremost a sleep disorder that requires proper attention.

If ignored, it can result in a number of problems, many of which are too serious they may not look like they have been caused by a seemingly simple sleep disorder. But the truth is, sleep apnea is not as simple as people think. On regular occasions, it can be troubling, but in some instances, it can be life-threatening. Not knowing the dangers of sleep apnea can place a person at a heightened risk, so it pays to be aware of them.

    The dangers

There are two main effects of sleep apnea, both of which may result in dangerous conditions and events.

    1. Poor quality of sleep

People with sleep apnea have shallow sleep and experience frequent waking. They are therefore deprived of the therapeutic and restful sleep the body needs to restore the lost energy and refresh the mind. The following morning, they wake up feeling tired, annoyed, and restless.

The sleep disturbance caused by sleep apnea also often leads to excessive daytime sleepiness. Some may fall asleep while doing their regular routines like eating or talking. However, it can be dangerous if they are caught driving. Researches have tallied a number of car crashes among people with sleep apnea, confirming they are more prone to car accidents than other drivers and motorists.

Lack of concentration, which normally results in poor performance at work and in school, is also observed from people with sleep apnea. They may also have memory and learning difficulties.

People with sleep apnea may as well experience psychological problems such as anxiety, irritability, mood and behavior changes, and depression. Gain weight may also be apparent since lack of sleep essentially boosts the appetite.

    2. Oxygen deprivation

Many people are unaware that sleep apnea interrupts a body function as important as oxygen saturation. Oxygen is vital in the body and when absent, it creates a strain in the cardiovascular system.

This happens because as oxygen level drops due to breath pauses, the cardiovascular system, which is responsible in delivering oxygen through the blood, tends to work harder. The effect of which is high blood pressure, a risk factor for developing cardiovascular disease, stroke, and heart attack.

In fact, studies showed that people with sleep apnea are more likely to suffer from cardiovascular problems, especially those with untreated sleep apnea. Another study said that sudden death due to irregular heart rhythm during sleeping hours is more likely to happen among people with sleep apnea. Such death usually occurs in waking hours among people without the sleep disorder.

There are two sure ways to counter the dangers of sleep apnea?having oneself checked and treated. As it seems, this sleep disorder is more damaging and serious than what others seem to think. It can make everyday life a little troubling and, worse, can claim life in the most subtle ways.

With sleep apnea, there is no room for taking chances. So if you think your body shows sign of the sleep disorder, see a sleep specialist at once and undergo treatments.
